About Nomad Finance Hub

Why we started

Nomad Finance Hub began in 2021 when two remote workers—Maya, a freelance writer, and David, a software engineer—spent a month untangling their tax obligations across three countries. They had each called multiple accountants, read conflicting blog posts, and still weren't sure where they owed what. The information existed, but it was scattered, outdated, or written for accountants rather than the people actually living it.

We built this site to fix that: a single place where remote workers and digital nomads can find plain-language explanations of tax residency, banking options, visa requirements, and financial planning—without the jargon or the sales pitch.

What we do

We publish guides, checklists, and country-specific breakdowns on:

  • Tax residency rules and double-taxation treaties
  • Opening and maintaining bank accounts as a remote worker
  • Digital nomad visa requirements and application processes
  • Retirement and investment options that work across borders

Every guide is reviewed by a credentialed accountant or immigration lawyer before it goes live. We update country pages at least twice a year, and more often when rules change.

How we're different

We don't sell visas, tax services, or banking products. Our revenue comes from affiliate partnerships with a small number of providers we've vetted, and from a paid newsletter. That means we can recommend a free option as easily as a paid one.

We also publish our sources. Each guide links to the official government pages, treaty documents, or legal references behind our claims. If we get something wrong, we correct it and note the change at the bottom of the page.

Our team

  • Maya Chen, Co-founder and Editor – Former freelance journalist; has lived and worked from 12 countries. Oversees content and fact-checking.
  • David Okafor, Co-founder and Research Lead – Software engineer turned researcher; builds our country comparison tools and maintains the tax treaty database.
  • Elena Ruiz, CPA – Reviews all tax content. Licensed in the US and Spain; specializes in cross-border taxation for individuals.
  • James Whitfield, Immigration Consultant – Reviews visa content. Former caseworker for a digital nomad visa program; now independent.
  • Priya Nair, Staff Writer – Covers banking and fintech; previously wrote for a personal finance publication.

We also work with a network of freelance contributors in different regions who help us keep local details accurate.

Our values

  • Accuracy over speed. We'd rather publish a day late than get a rule wrong.
  • Transparency. We disclose affiliate relationships and cite our sources.
  • Plain language. If a guide needs a glossary, we haven't finished editing.
  • Independence. We don't accept payment for favorable coverage.

How we make money

We earn through affiliate commissions when readers sign up for services we recommend (like banking or visa assistance), and through a paid newsletter. Affiliate links are clearly marked, and they never influence our rankings. We also run occasional sponsored deep-dives, but those are labeled as sponsored and kept separate from our editorial content.
